21. Polish Film Festival in America

Jacek Borcuch's Wszystko co kocham ("Everything That I Love") and Rafał Wieczyński's Popiełuszko. Wolność jest w nas ("Popiełuszko. Freedom Is Within Us") will open the 21. Polish Film Festival in America (PFFA), one of the world's biggest annual programmings promoting Polish cinema. The Festival will take place from November 6 to 22, 2009.
This year the program of the Festival will focus around the 20. anniversary of the fall of communism in Poland. At the opening ceremony apart from new films by Borcuch and Wieczyński the viewers will see the premiere screening of Kinematograf, a short animated film by Tomasz Bagiński, the author of the Oscar nominated Cathedral.
On saturday night, after the film screenings, a blues guitarist, Melvin Taylor will perform with his band at Towarzystwo Sztuki. The concert will be part of the Cineblues, the night of the blues music.
Although non-competitive, PFFA grants two major awards: "Golden Teeth" for the most interesting feature and documentary film of the Festival selected by a public jury and "Wings Award" for Life Achievement in the art of film outside of Poland. Another two awards will be given for outstanding achievements in promoting Polish film in North America ("Złota Ciupaga"), and for best effort in propagating the PFFA ("Angel").
The Festival received Laterna Magica Award for outstanding achievements in the Polish film promotion, Award of Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and Polish Film Institute Award for promotion of Polish film abroad.
Over seventy feature, documentary and animated films made by Polish filmmakers will be presented at the Festival, most of them with English subtitles. Many interesting personalities of Polish Cinema are scheduled to come during the Festival, among them the actors Marcin Dorociński, Ilona Ostrowska, Olgierd Łukaszewicz, Izabela Miko, Karolina Gorczyca, the directors Waldemar Krzystek, Krzysztof Lang, Andrzej Kotkowski, Jacek Bławut, Rafał Wieczyński, Jacek Borcuch, as well as many producers and representatives of Polish film spheres.
The screenings of the films will include short introductions before the films by American film critics and discussions afterwards.
The Festival is organized in collaboration with Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
