"Nijinsky" at Moscow's Meyerhold Centre

The Stefan Jaracz Theatre from Łódź presented "Nijinsky", a solo dance piece directed by Waldemar Zawodziński and performed by Kamil Maćkowiak. The show employs multimedia video projections, and blends together dance and theatre with texts prepared in English

The original score of the piece was put together by Kamil Maćkowiak and Waldemar Zawodziński, based on the diaries of the famous dancer, Vaclav Nijinski. In the Russian capital, the play will be presented twice at the prestigious Meyerhold Centre as part of the "Meetings with Meyerhold" international theatre festival.

Born in 1959, Waldemar Zawodziński is a theatre director and stage designer. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź in 1985 and in 1988, he completed his diploma at the Theatre Direction Department of the State Theatre School in Kraków. Since 1992, Zawodziński has been running the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Łódź as its artistic director. He was awarded the annual prize of the Polish Minister of Culture in 1998 and 1999, and he is also a laureate of the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Gloria Artis medals. He has directed 47 theatre pieces and garnered over 20 prizes for direction and stage design. Zawodziński has directed a few opera pieces and was also the author of numerous set designs for productions of other Polish theatre directors. He is a lecturer at the State Film Theatre and Television School in Łódź.

Kamil Maćkowiak is an actor who performs in theatre productions, films and in television series. He grew up in the Polish Tricity where he studied in the State Ballet School. He debuted on the stage of the Baltic Opera at the age of 14. In 2003, he graduated from the Acting Department of the State Theatre Film and Television School in Łódź. Maćkowiak has performed in 17 productions of the Stefan Jaracz Theatre and has also cooperated with the Studyjny Theatre in Łódź and the Scena Prezentacje Theatre in Warsaw. His role in the "Nijinsky" performance is to date his biggest success. Since the premiere in 2005, Maćkowiak has been awarded 7 prizes for this role. The actor is also known in Poland for his roles in popular television series. He is active as the chairman of his Kamil Maćkowiak Foundation.
