"The Work of Jacek Malczewski in The Collection of The Lviv Art Gallery" - exhibition

The exhibition consists of more than 60 of the artist's works, including paintings, gouaches, sketches, and watercolors. It will be the broadest presentation to date in Poland of works by this artist from the museum in Lviv.

The work of Jacek Malczewski (1854-1929) - one of the greatest individualities in the history of Polish art - derives from the late Romantic tradition and is closely linked with the art of the Symbolists and Expressionists. Saturated with deep and complex philosophical and psychological meaning, the basis for much of Polish art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, his works are an outstanding expression of the entire array of Polish realities and myths, referring to eternal subjects like death, patriotism, and religion. Jacek Malczewski's life consisted of an eternal search for the truth, meaning, and sense of the Polish nation's struggle for freedom, of passionate reflection on the role of the artist and the cognitive functions of art. His creative path was marked in a singular manner by milestones like his grand cycles "ZATRUTA STUDNIA / THE POISONED WELL" and "THANATOS", and paintings like "BLEDNE KOLO / VICIOUS CIRCLE" and "MELANCHOLIA / MELANCHOLY".

The exhibition TWORCZOSC JACKA MALCZEWSKIEGO W ZBIORACH LWOWSKIEJ GALERII SZTUKI / THE WORK OF JACEK MALCZEWSKI IN THE COLLECTION OF THE LVIV ART GALLERY consists of more than 60 of the artist's works, including paintings, gouaches, sketches, and watercolors. It will be the broadest presentation to date in Poland of works by this artist from the museum in Lviv. The Lviv Art Gallery possesses a significant collection of Malczewski's works numbering 68 paintings and sketches and 18 drawings. It includes such pieces as "MATKA BOSKA / THE MOTHER OF GOD", "AUTOPORTRET Z FAUNAMI / SELF-PORTRAIT WITH FAUNS", "ZATRUTA STUDNIA / POISONED WELL", "CHRYSTUS W EMAUS / CHRIST AT EMMAUS", and "CHRYSTUS I SAMARYTANKA / CHRIST AND THE SAMARITAN".

On Monday, September 20, the first Polish arena for the Euro 2012 Cup will open in Poznań. The official ceremony will be honoured with a concert featuring Sting performing with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Steven Mercurio.
Until September 25 (except for Sundays and holidays), the John the Baptist Archcathedral in Warsaw will host daily organ recitals as part of the 7th edition of the "Grand Organ of the Archicathedral" Festival.
"Dotyk człowieka/Beruehrungen" is the title of the exhibition presenting works of six Polish contemporary artists displayed at the German Embassy in Warsaw (Jazdów street): on view until September 27.
On October 17, the National Museum in Poznań will host the first public presentation of Claude Monet's "Beach in Pourville". The painting was stolen ten years ago. The painting returned to the museum in January 2010 after the folice found the thief.
Jazz pianist Chick Corea will give his only Polish solo concert on November 8 in Zabrze.
