Zygmunt Januszewski "Chimerical Equilibrium"
Warsaw, Test Gallery, September 5 - September 26, 2003
Zygmunt Januszewski is one of Poland's most interesting illustrators. His drawings have appeared in many Polish publications.
"There is a unifying thread that has been weaving its way through the labyrinth of Zygmunt Januszewski's drawings, prints, posters, and photographs over the last few decades. It is this thread that allows the artist to peak out of his world of devious powers, unexplained mechanisms, and erratic gravitation," writes curator Grazyna Ruszczyc in the catalogue to the exhibition. "He peers out, gazes around, and - his contradictory powers renewed - dives back into his world in order to teach politicians, those in power, and exiles alike about the world of drawing. The exhibition follows this thread, from his sketches and poster designs, through the scenery of his theatre of lines and his press and book illustrations, to his original prints. The more than sixty works on view are linked through a code that is recognizable." Zygmunt Januszewski (born 1956) graduated in 1981 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with a degree in graphic design. He has exhibited in Poland, England, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, and Germany. Exhibition opening: September 4, 2003, 6 p.m. "Test" Gallery in Warsaw Galeria "Test" w Warszawie Manager: Grażyna Ruszczyc ul. Marszałkowska 34/50, 00-554 Warszawa tel.
