Award for "The Beats of Freedom"
Chicago, Polish Film Festival in America, November 22, 2009
Award for "The Beats of Freedom"
Chicago "Beats of Freedom" by Leszek Gnoiński and Wojciech Słota received a special award of the Jury at the 21st Polish Film Festival in America. The jury appreciated "the pioneering representation of Polish rock music in film and acknowledged the music's role in undermining the communist regime." "Beats of Freedom" is a tale about Polish rock scene in the times of Communism seen from the perspective of Chris Salewicz, an English journalist of Polish descent. The music of that period did not only bring to broader audiences glimpses of freedom, it was too, on its part, a rare area of liberty in the everyday life in the People's Republic of Poland. Adam Mickiewicz Institute is a co-producer of the film. For more information on the Festival see also: Polish Film Festival in America.
