32nd International Festival of Traditional Jazz - "Zlota Tarka"
Ilawa, August 15 - August 17, 2002
languages: Polski  / English

32nd International Festival of Traditional Jazz - "Zlota Tarka" - this event, which has been held for more than 30 years, started from the Golden Washboard - the prize initially awarded at the Jazz on the Odra Festival to the best and most active Polish traditional-jazz group. From 1973 it became a separate event, with concerts held at the Kongresowa Hall of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. In 1994, the festival's name was changed and the event was moved to Ilawa. The new venue also involved modifications to the festival's formula. Concerts are held in the Municipal Park, and fringe events are held in a number of places across the town, which has made the festival hugely popular with local residents. The success of the first edition held here encouraged the municipal authorities to fund the Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Amphitheatre on Lake Jeziorak.

Traditionally the festival opens with an impressive musical parade that flows through the streets of Ilawa from the town's central square to the Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Amphitheatre. This year's edition will feature appearances by Polish artists Anna Serafinska, Lora Szafran, Ewa Uryga, Marek Balata, Andrzej Rosiewicz, and the Vistula River Brass Band, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year. Also scheduled to perform are the Jazz Band Ball, the Boba Jazz Band, the Jazz Makers, the Blues Fellows, and the Leszek Szprot Quartet from Poland, and a series of foreign guests, including Max Collie and the Rhythm Aces (Great Britain), Oskar Klein (Switzerland), the Malmo Jazz Kings and Paul and His Gang (both of Sweden), and Big Mama and the Golden Six (USA). The festival finale will include an announcement of the award winners in the GOLDEN WASHBOARD (ZLOTA TARKA) 2002 competition.
