The concept for the LUTOSLAWSKI FORUM was formulated within months of the death of composer Witold Lutoslawski (1913-1994). The first edition of the event was held in 1995, with the program of the first forum consisting of a wide array of music, including works that the composer and conductor saw as especially important to the development of 20th century music.

This year's tenth anniversary edition of the LUTOSLAWSKI FORUM will open with a symphonic concert (March 19th and 20th, 2004) performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic under the baton of Mariusz Smolij with soloists Nikolai Demidenko on piano and Krzysztof Bednarczyk on trumpet. The program for the inaugural concert will feature Dmitri Shostakovich's "Concerto in C minor" for piano, trumpet and string orchestra, Sergei Prokofiev's "1st Piano Concerto in D-flat major op. 10", Christopher Rouse's "RAPTURE", and Witold Lutoslawski's "4th Symphony", which the composer completed in 1992 and which is considered to be one of the most exceptional works ever created by the forum's patron. Other forum events will include a concert of oratorical music featuring the Schola Cantorum Gedanensis under artistic director Jan Lukaszewicz. Scheduled for March 22nd, 2004, the program this concert will include Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki's "VENI SANCTE SPIRITUS op. 61", Frank Martin's "MESSE", Petr Eben's "PSALMI PEREGRINI", Arnold Schönberg's "FRIEDE AUF ERDEN op. 13", Arvo Pärt's "MAGNIFICAT", Augustyn Bloch's "ANENAIKI", Pawel Szymanski's "IN PARADISUM", Niccolo Castiglioni's "HYMNE", and Sven-David Sandström's "A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH". The Chamber Ensemble of the National Philharmonic will also take part in the LUTOSLAWSKI FORUM, appearing in concert under the baton of Lukasz Borowicz and with soloist Urszula Kryger (mezzo soprano). The program for the concert of chamber music will feature Bohuslav Martinu's "LA REVUE DE CUISINE", Maurice Ravel's "THREE POEMS" to verse by Mallarmé, Witold Lutoslawski's "PRZEZROCZA / TRANSPARENCIES", "PRELUDIA TANECZNE / DANCE PRELUDES", Tadeusz Wielecki's "BALLADA DZIADOWSKA / BEGGAR BALLAD", Mauricio Kagel's "SÜDOSTEN", and Luciano Berio's "FOLK SONGS" for voice and seven instruments. The 10th LUTOSLAWSKI FORUM will conclude with a pair of symphonic concerts (March 26th and 27th, 2004) by the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic under Jerzy Maksymiuk and Lukasz Borowicz. The concerts will feature soloists Jerzy Knetig (tenor) and Robert Gierlach (baritone) in performances of Igor Stravinsky's "SCHERZO Á LA RUSSE" and "SYMPHONY IN THREE PARTS", Béla Bartok's "CANTATA PROFANA", and Witold Lutoslawski's "TRZY POEMATY / THREE POEMS", set to a text by Henri Michaux.

Kwadrofonik at Crossculture Festival
The European Film Academy (EFA) has announced its choice of international EFA Ambassadors. Among the selected distinguished personalities from the world of European film there is Maciej Stuhr. The Polish actor will represent EFA and the European Film Awards at various prestigious events.
The Berlin Maxim Gorki Theatre will show Heinrich von Kleist's "Amphitryon", directed by Jan Bosse (November 19, 2009) and Fritz Kater's "Haeven", directed by Armin Petras (November 21, 2009) at Stary Teatr in Cracow. The shows are part of the collaboration between the two theatres, called "Wanderlust".
18th History Book Fairs will take place on November 26 - Novemer 29, 2009, in Warsaw. The inauguratory press conference "History Book Fairs - the new beginning" starts on November 23, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. in Kubicki Arcades at the Royal Castle.
40 short documentary films from 11 countries have been qualified for competition in the 13th International Film Festival "Off Cinema". The Festival starts on November 18, 2009, in Poznań.
The former headquarters of the Polish United Workers' Party's Central Comitee, a monumetal building located in downtown Warsaw, near the de Gaulle traffic circle, was on November 16, 2009, inscribed on the list of registered monuments of the Masovian Voivodeship.
On November 13, 2009, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bohdan Zdrojewski, signed an agreement, according to which the Ministry shall co-fund the construction of the Centre of Applied Arts and Innovation Centre at the Academy of Fine Arts.
