8th Film and Art Festival "SUMMER OF FILMS" / "Lato Filmow" - the festival in Kazimierz is a marathon of the season's best full-length feature films, documentaries, short films, television theatre productions and animated cartoons, supplemented by numerous premiere shows. The festival prizes - Crowns of Kazimierz the Great - are awarded to the best films chosen by the public. The programme also includes artistic fringe events - concerts, seminars, meetings with special guests, exhibitions, and street theatre performances.

This year's edition of the Film Summer in Kazimierz Dolny will feature several series of screenings:

  • The "Fresh Out of the Box" ("Spod Igly") Series

    Previews of the newest in Polish cinema and premieres of a series of foreign films including: "NIEBO / HEAVEN", directed by Tom Tykwer on the basis of a screenplay by Krzysztof Kieslowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz; "DON'S PLUM", directed by R.D. Robb and John Schindler; and "STOLEN SUMMER", directed by Pete Jackson.

  • The "Films of the Season" ("Filmy sezonu") Series

    Screenings of the best Polish and foreign films of the season, including Baltasar Kormakur's "101 REYKJAVIK", Sean Penn's "THE PLEDGE", Michael Haneke's "THE PIANIST", Sofia Coppola's "THE VIRGIN SUICIDES", Jan Hrebejk’s "DIVIDED WE FALL", Artur Wiecek and Witold Beres's "ANIOL W KRAKOWIE / AN ANGEL IN KRAKOW", Andrzej Baranski's "WSZYSCY SWIECI / ALL THE SAINTS", and Slawomir Fabicki's "MESKA SPRAWA / A MAN THING" (cinematography by Bogumil Godfrejow).

  • A series devoted in its entirety to the films of documentary filmmakers Andrzej Fidyk and Andrzej Brzozowski

  • The Independent Films Competition

    A competition for all those who made a film and now wish to show it to a broader public. The films will be presented during the "Independent Film" Series and evaluated by a jury of professionals made up of film critics and directors. Winners will be awarded valuable prizes.

  • Film Criticism Workshop

    The workshop will be held during the festival and approximately 10 people will be chosen to participate. Well-known journalists and film scholars will lead the meetings and participants will be chosen from among applicants who submit a review of one of the following films: Steven Spielberg's "E.T.", Ron Howard's "A BEAUTIFUL MIND", or Slawomir Fabicki's "MESKA SPRAWA / A MAN THING".

  • Additional artistic events will include:

    - a concert of the film music of Michael Nyman within the ruins of the castle in Kazimierz Dolny;
    - an exhibition of works by members of the Mlodozeniec family – Jan, who passed away in 2000, and his sons, Piotr and Stanislaw;
    - "MAZEPA" – a street theatre production by Krakow's KTO Theatre, the Kiev Experimental Theatre, and the Voskryesinna Theatre from Lviv;
    - open meetings with special guests of the festival and film stars in the Festival Clubhouse.

    On Monday, September 20, the first Polish arena for the Euro 2012 Cup will open in Poznań. The official ceremony will be honoured with a concert featuring Sting performing with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Steven Mercurio.
    Until September 25 (except for Sundays and holidays), the John the Baptist Archcathedral in Warsaw will host daily organ recitals as part of the 7th edition of the "Grand Organ of the Archicathedral" Festival.
    "Dotyk człowieka/Beruehrungen" is the title of the exhibition presenting works of six Polish contemporary artists displayed at the German Embassy in Warsaw (Jazdów street): on view until September 27.
    On October 17, the National Museum in Poznań will host the first public presentation of Claude Monet's "Beach in Pourville". The painting was stolen ten years ago. The painting returned to the museum in January 2010 after the folice found the thief.
    Jazz pianist Chick Corea will give his only Polish solo concert on November 8 in Zabrze.
