Zygmunt Bauman, "Man's Discomfort in Postmodernity"
languages: Polish  / English  / German

An essay on the dark sides of postmodern society, an allusion to Freud's "Man's Discomfort in Postmodernity". "The pain and anguish typical of the postmodern world are hatched in society, which offers an extension of personal freedom in return for a shrinkage of the range of security for the individual. The postmodern anguish is born of freedom, not of oppression," Bauman claims.
"As usual, Bauman's metaphors are brilliant; he is a humanist armed with a poet's pen." (Michal Cichy)
Zygmunt Bauman (b. 1925), sociologist and philosopher, Professor Emeritus of Leeds University, author of over 40 books in Polish and English, which have been translated into many languages.
